I want to get a racing game for myself for Christmas and I was curious what ya’ll think the best racing game for Xbox 360. I am thinking of Forza Motorsports 4,but I don’t really want to buy a wheel, anything else to consider before I pull the trigger?

FM4 is my favorite game evar. I bought a 360 just so I could play it and turned down buying a Xbone because I didn’t like 5 as much. I don’t have a wheel and I honestly think that FM4 does a better job of using the controller to its fullest extent than any other console racing game.

Fourza is definitely the way to go. There’s a lot of DLC, but the stuff included is more than enough for dozens of hours of gameplay. I’ve probably put about 40 hours into that game, all of which while on breaks home from college. It’s realistic enough to challenge you when you turn off all of the assists, while arcade-esque enough to entertain you for a long time. Top tip: upgrade your suspension in every car you buy and stiffen the heck out of everything. Everything tends to drive super soft otherwise.

I’ve been playing Fourza regularly since it came out. I’ve never used a wheel for it, just a standard controller. It’s a blast.

I’ve never played Fourza with a wheel, and I have many, many hours in it. Totally worth buying without a wheel.

I've been playing Fourza for the past 3 years or so. It was a gift from my girlfriend WITH a 360. I've been playing here and there about 2-3 hours at a time. I don't even want to know how many hours I have in it.

Fourtza is epic. Totally worth buying. Though, you will want to budget for the extra DLC. If you’re a fan of Porsche, you’ll have to drop at least $20 for that pack of cars. You might find the Porsche pack on sale, but it rarely drops in price; blame EA.

Since you’re starting the game so late, you can pick up the DLC cars more slowly, but I wouldn’t take too long as Turn10 are bound to turn off the servers at some point.

As far as tuning goes, there are many good threads on the Forza forums, but it’s best to try it out yourself and find what works for you. Same for the assists. Don’t jump in and turn them all off right away, unless you are comfortable with racing games already. Especially online, as Turn10 have a heavy hand with people causing grief by wrecking other players.

Then how are people supposed to get the Porsche pack?

That's fucking lame.

Fourza is far better than Forza 6 and don’t let anyone tell you other wise. As far as racing games Forza 4 is the pinnacle . As the others have mentioned there is absolutely no need for a wheel. The game is plenty epic even with the controller. I had a wheel and I still played with the controller 90% of the time.

Some other games I found great were.

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (arguably the best need for speed on XB360)

Need For Speed: Most Wanted

Don’t bother with any other of the need for speeds with the exception of NFS: undercover that one was acceptable but nowhere as good as the other 2 I mentioned. Need for speed the run is a SERIOUS waste of money don’t even take it if someone wants to give it to you it really was that bad.

And one game that always flies under the radar is:

Driver : San Fransisco .

The game is not that long (you’ll probably finish in a week) but it has seriously epic car selection and up until the very end it is a VERY VERY fun game. for a $4.99 bargain bin game you cannot ignore it.

While Fourza is the top choice, I enjoy Test Drive Unlimited 2 as well. A couple of nicely detailed islands to cruise on and a good selection of vehicles to choose from. Sometimes I just bypass the racing aspect and cruise around at stupid speeds knowing it’s not really going to hurt my car, and smashing into police and causing chases is quite enjoyable.

It really is. That was only a month after I got the game. I was planning on getting further into the game before I bought the dlc, now I can’t at all. There were a few packs that I really wanted to get.

The best racing game for the 360 is Colin McRae: DiRT . The first one, not 2 or 3. Those got way too into the arcadey, gimmicky stunt stuff and had barely any actual rally stages in them. DiRT was pretty much straight up rally and hill climb action. Plus it includes Pikes Peak when it was only half paved, Group B cars and the crazy legendary hill climb cars like the PP Celica, PP Tacoma, Monster Tajima’s Suzuki, the Peugeot 405 T16.

Fourza is an excellent circuit racing game for the 360.
